Use the following procedure to setup your Windows 7 computer for file sharing with the WMS.
**NOTE - For the WMS to properly see any windows 7 shares, you need to share the folder with a specific person (ie, account on the pc) and not share with the 'HomeGroup. Only other windows 7 machines can share in a HomeGroup, thus the stick won't see those shares setup that way.
**Important! - You need to set your shared folder to share with 'Everyone' or if you choose a specific account (such as your username on the pc) you NEED to have a password set on that account. Windows will not allow a share to be mounted without a password. (The Everyone account uses the password 'none').
1. Click on the “Start” button and then “Control Panel”.
2. In the “Control Panel”, click on “Network and Internet”.
3. In “Network and Internet”, Click on “Network and Sharing Center”.
4. Click on “Change advanced sharing settings” located in the left panel of the Network and Sharing Center.
5. Make sure the following options are selected:
Turn on network discovery Turn on file and printer sharing Turn off password protected sharing Under the HomeGroup Connections section, ensure that it is set to use 'User accounts and Passwords' and NOT homegroups To share a Public folder, ensure that “Turn on sharing so that anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public Folders”, is turned on.
When complete, click on “Save Changes”.
NOTE: Turning off password protected sharing enables the WMS to browse the folders on the shared windows 7 PC but you would still need to provide the user name and password of a user account on the machine if you enable a user account (not everybody) to share the folder. This is discussed in the section on setting up shared folders for windows 7.
You now have your Windows 7 computer setup to share files.
