Use the following procedure to setup your Linux computer for file sharing with the Wireless Media Stick™.
Please NOTE: There are several different methods to setup Samba shares in Linux. You can use the smb.conf file, Webmin, or another desktop GUI. We are providing the instructions here for setting up Samba sharing in Ubuntu 10.04 using Gnome desktop. (If you don't see the samba option, or otherwise don't have samba installed, simply install it with apt-get, yum or any other method).
1. Open System/Administration/Samba
2. On the resultant window click on the 'plus' symbol to add a Samba share.
3. Click the 'Browse' button to select the folder you want to share, or else enter the information manually.
4. Browse to the folder you want to share, select it and then click OK.
5. The folder has been selected. Please ensure that the folder is set to 'Visible' and if you choose, set the folder to be 'Writable'.
6. Click on 'Access' and then ensure that 'Allow access to everyone' is selected. This will grant 'guest' or 'anonymous' access to the folder. If you want, select the users in the list that you want to only have access. You will need to enter a username and password when accessing this share from the WirelessMediaStick™ if you don't allow access to 'everyone'. Click OK to proceed.
7. The Configuration page for Samba now shows the added Samba share. The 'Music' folder is set to share with read only permissions. The folder 'Music' will now show up in the add/remove window when you go to the stick Management Page. You can now close the window.
Your folder is now shared and will be visible to the WirelessMediaStick.
